The Ridges Sanctuary

More Than a Walk in the Woods

Discover the natural beauty of The Ridges Sanctuary, Wisconsin’s first land trust and one of the Midwest’s most ecologically diverse landscapes. Established in 1937, this 1,600-acre preserve in Baileys Harbor protects a rare ridge-and-swale ecosystem, offering a stunning variety of habitats from sandy shorelines to dense conifer forests.

Home to over 500 plant species, including 25 varieties of native orchids, and a haven for 60 species of birds, The Ridges also shelters endangered wildlife such as the Hine’s Emerald dragonfly. Visitors of all ages can explore scenic boardwalks and trails, where nature thrives just as it did when early conservationists first safeguarded this remarkable sanctuary. With trails open from dawn to dusk and free admission for kids, The Ridges is a place where education, conservation, and adventure come together in harmony.
